How does the treatment work?
Participants are exposed daily to lights and sounds that mimic the brain's natural gamma waves, which are impaired in people with Alzheimer's. This appears to strengthen the connections between brain cells, reduce inflammation and slow the progression of the disease. For some participants, brain scans have shown that the disease has not progressed for a year, which is very encouraging.
The research behind the therapy
The study now includes 600 patients, and preliminary results show that the treatment can:
- Preserving brain volume.
- Improve memory and daily functions.
- Increase sleep quality.
All this happens without serious side effects!
Although the treatment is still under research, there are already several companies developing similar technologies. Among these are OptoCeutics in Copenhagen and Vielight in the United States, which offer products based on gamma stimulation.
